Just maybe...
Just maybe you are sitting with a brilliant idea and for some reason you just can’t do anything with it. Maybe you need a billion bucks to make your idea real and you just don’t quite have a billion lying around at the moment. What do you do?
A: Wait until you have a billion bucks which might be never and take your idea to your grave?
B: Try and “sell” your idea for half a billion bucks?
C: Share your idea with the world and allow somebody that might have that billion bucks to bring your idea to life!
If you chose A:
Don't feel bad. We all come up with ideas all the time and some we can easily make work. Like an idea to put used tea bags in your pot plants or garden to enrich the soil. You wouldn't be able to sell this idea, but you could sell your excess used tea bags :-)
The problem with choosing A is that sometimes you have an idea that might change the world, make a million live better, save a million lives or make 3 billion people less hungry. You came up with this idea and you know that while it will benefit other people, it could also make you very rich. You just don't have the means / time / knowledge to "take your idea to market" as the ponytails term it. But there might be somebody else that can take your idea and make it happen.
If you never share your idea because you would like to make money from your idea, and you never get to actually do anything about your idea and eventually you take it to your grave, or something happens in the world a couple of years after you came up with your idea that nullifies your idea, have you gained anything? Have you made any money by holding your idea in your head? Have you made the world a better place? Have you enriched any lives? Nope. The value of your idea is nothing if it doesn't come to life. And if you can't make it happen, give it to somebody else who can, and your payback will be the knowledge that your idea made a difference…
If you chose B:
Ideas can't be sold. Well, actually they can, but selling the idea without telling the buyer what they are going to buy means you have already given them the idea without them committing to buy. Watch the movie "The Social Network" and read the Facebook and countless other stories. You can't patent an idea. You can register an idea. You can't trademark an idea. If you can't take your idea and create a patent from it, you can't really protect and sell it.
I know, I have had a load of ideas, hence this website, and some ideas I just know I can't do anything with, but maybe somebody else can. This forum does not buy or sell ideas, nor does it facilitate or encourage such activity, but it is not stopped or blocked on the forum. If you have an idea and you are looking for a potential "business partner" or buyer for your idea, be clever in how you post it. Ask people to PM (Private Message) you and make contact outside the forum. It is not against any rules, but please read the forum rules.
